John Armstrong

John ArmstrongJohn Armstrong is a senior at Iowa State University majoring in agricultural studies. He grew up in rural Iowa County, Iowa and graduated from Williamsburg High School. He is the youngest of four children and the second to attend Iowa State University.

John has been involved in a variety of campus organizations since arriving at Iowa State University. He has held executive leadership positions in the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, Alpha Zeta Honor Fraternity, and Bacon Expo. He has also served as a CALS Council Representative for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

John has been involved with Start Something College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) throughout his time at Iowa State by attending roundtables and other events, as well as being a member of last year’s Start Something CALS Student Incubator. He now serves as a member of the Start Something CALS Student Leadership Team, where he uses his leadership skills to ensure that Start Something CALS events run smoothly. He is in the second year of starting his own business, a custom seeding business in Eastern, Iowa that focuses on cover crops and helping producers simplify their seeding needs.

When asked about his involvement with Start Something CALS, Jonh said, “I got involved in Start Something CALS because I noticed how it helped students turn dreams into reality. You don’t have to go out and follow others footsteps. Start Something CALS helps you take your ideas and dreams and make them a reality. Your passion can be your career.”
