Josie Kelly Summer Internship with Farm4Profit

Josie Kelly, a senior at Iowa State University from Nevada, IA, is studying Agricultural and Rural Policy Studies and Public Relations. This past
summer she had the opportunity to intern with Farm4Profit as a Digital Marketing Intern through the Start Something CALS program at Iowa State University.
Farm4Profit is an agricultural media company and popular podcast created by farmers that features weekly conversations covering farm profitability, ag technology, agronomy, marketing strategies, and industry trends. While at Farm4Profit this summer Josie's role involved researching prospective podcast guests, helping create newsletter content, and managing social media across multiple platforms. She also scheduled content and helped keep posts organized so the team could consistently share episodes, industry updates, and behind-the-scenes content with their audience.
Josie felt that Farm4Profit pushed her to think more creatively about how to make agricultural content feel interesting, relevant, and worth engaging with online. “Farm4Profit has been an impactful way to combine my interests in agriculture, communication, policy, and social media. I helped create content, support the podcast, and got to learn from people doing all kinds of work across the ag industry,” Josie said.
Josie's favorite part of the internship was strengthening her content creation skills, with long-form content. She had the ability to take an idea and turn it into something clear, engaging, and useful for the Farm4Profit audience. Josie liked that while in her internship she grew a lot in writing, planning content, and understanding what people want to keep reading or listening to because she was trusted to take ownership of projects, make creative decisions, and keep content moving without needing constant direction.
Josie's internship with Farm4Profit helped confirm what kind of work she would like to do after graduation. Josie stated that “I enjoyed getting to combine agriculture, communication, and creativity while creating content that connects with people in the industry. It made me even more excited to pursue a career in agricultural public relations and communications.”
